The Christian church has always seen itself as a minority – a minority of one – but the church has always prayed for unity. The early Christians prayed that they would be one as the Father and Son are one (John 17:11). They prayed that they would be one as Christ prayed for unity (John 17:20). And, they prayed that they would be one as God is one (1 John 5:6).

The prayers of the early Christians were answered and we should be grateful for it. We can and should thank God and His grace for our diversity and unity. But we should also realize that we still have much work to do.

We should pray that we may grow together in knowledge and love (1 Peter 3:8), but we should also pray that we will never be divided about what is truth (Romans 14:5) and that we will firmly stand together in faith (Ephesians 4:13).
